As the founders and co-owners of Absolute Value Tutoring, Heather and Tom have been educating students of all ages for over a decade. Heather, a graduate of Sewickley Academy, studied at American University in DC and spent many years working in broadcast television before pivoting to her true passion: education. She holds a degree in English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh and is also an author; her children’s book, I Can’t Find My Fun, was published in 2019. At Absolute Value, Heather is the primary instructor for English and literature classes, including SAT prep. She is also the content creator for all specialty enrichment classes, like Travel Through the Middles Ages; the History of Board Games; Famous Houses and the Stories They Tell; and more.
Tom is a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School and attended both Carnegie Mellon University and Duquesne on his way to becoming a professional musician and educator. Tom served as the Band Director at Keystone Oaks High School and was also the Associate Director of Percussion at Mt. Lebanon High School for two decades. He is a much-sought-after private percussion teacher and musician, and he teaches many of the enrichment classes at Absolute Value.
